At the outset, when he addressed his brothers, who were filled with resentment and envy over his anticipated triumph, picture him calmly responding, “Are not these words?” And like the humble David, who defeated Goliath, scattered the enemy forces, and secured the victory, it is typical of the humble to pardon grievances directed at themselves while seeking justice for wrongs done to others.

Consider his wisdom and profound humility. He refrains from uttering anything disrespectful or harsh to them, instead soothing their anger and calming their jealousy. He replies, “Are not these words? Do you not recognize that I have neither taken up arms nor joined the troops? I merely wished to observe what could instill such overwhelming arrogance in this man: ‘For who is this uncircumcised Philistine, who so reviles the army of the living God’ (1 Samuel 17:26)? Upon hearing his boastful declarations and witnessing the deep fear that gripped all those with Saul, he then asked, ‘What shall they do to him who kills this Philistine’ (1 Samuel 17:26)?
