When the split occurred and Jeroboam established the golden calves, the priests and Levites residing among the ten tribes relocated to the kingdom of David, as God's temple was situated there. This narrative illustrates that, despite their desires, Jeroboam and his descendants expelled them for their refusal to worship the Lord.
