The Church Fathers on this verse

2 Chronicles 31:1Meaning & Commentary from the Church Fathers

And when these things had been duly celebrated, all Israel that were found in the cities of Juda, went out, and they broke the idols, and cut down the groves, demolished the high places, and destroyed the altars, not only out of all Juda and Benjamin, but out of Ephraim also and Manasses, till they had utterly destroyed them: then all the children of Israel returned to their possessions and cities.

During this festival, Hezekiah ordered the elimination of idols throughout his realm, cautioning the people about the consequences their forebears faced for abandoning the one true God. As a result, idolatry came to an end, not only in Judah but also in various regions of Israel. Many who had attended the festivity returned to their communities and shared the spiritual experiences they had encountered during the widespread religious observance.
