The Church Fathers on this verse

One Church Father comments on this verse

Jerome of Stridon

4th centuryChurch Father

I understand, dear Principia, my sister in Christ, that some criticize me for addressing women at times and for placing the fairer sex above men. Therefore, I feel compelled to respond to my critics before discussing the reasoning you inquired about. The wife from Phœcoitia engages King David with her probing questions, teaches him through riddles, and guides him by the example of the Almighty. I have shared this with you concisely, most worthy daughter, so that you need not regret your endeavors and that men may not be ridiculed by their designation, given that the sacred Scriptures extol the virtue of women in contrast to those who face condemnation.
