Basil the Great

Just as a city's wealth is reflected in the plentiful goods available in its marketplace, and a land is deemed fruitful (Psalm 29:7) when it yields an abundance, similarly, the soul experiences richness when it is filled with diverse deeds. This cultivation must begin with thorough preparation and be nurtured by the generous outpouring of divine grace. Only then can it produce a harvest ‘thirtyfold, sixtyfold, and a hundredfold’ (cf.: Mk. 4:20), receiving the divine favor expressed in the blessing: ‘Blessed are thy barns and thy granaries.’

Ephraem the Syrian

4th centuryChurch Father

“Blessed is your vessel.” This serves as a reminder of the Sacred Feast and the Body instructed from it. And your grain. This reflects the significance of the leaven from the sacred space.
