Following Cyrus, his son Cambyses ascended to the throne, referred to as Asver (Assuir) and Artaxerxes (the first to bear this name) in chapter 4 of the First Book of Ezra. He issued a prohibition against the construction of the Lord's temple. The duration of Cambyses' reign is not recorded in Scripture.
