Beda Venerabilis
The reconstruction of the temple following the exile serves as a representation of the restoration of those who have wandered from the pathway of truth due to sin. After this sacred edifice was restored, it was essential for the priests, Levites, and all the descendants of those who returned to joyfully consecrate it. This reflects the joy in heaven among the angels of God when those who have sinned are redeemed (Luke 15:10). There is also delight among the teachers who have devoted themselves to the salvation of the lost, as well as among all those who have moved in thought and action from Babylon, symbolizing a “mixture of sinners,” to the stronghold of righteousness, which embodies the true promised land.

Consequently, all—priests, Levites, and other faithful individuals—celebrate the sanctification of the Lord’s restored house, uniting all members of the holy Church in joy when the wayward are reconciled through repentance. During this consecration, they present offerings and make vows of gratitude to God for leading those in error to a life of holiness, so that many, inspired by their transformed lives directed towards God, may also be compelled to engage in acts of exceptional virtue.
