Why was Salya's son given this name? The account unfolds as follows: Arphaxad, the offspring of Shem and the progenitor of Cainan and the grandfather of Salah, previously resided with his brothers in Armenia, the site where Noah's ark rested on Mount Ararat. He then desired to relocate to the land of the Chaldeans, a place uninhabited by any. Gathering his entire household, he separated from his brothers, crossed the Tigris River, and became the first to inhabit Chaldea. It was during this river crossing that a son was born to his grandson Salah. Arphaxad chose the name Eber for the child, translating to ‘crossing,’ due to the timing of his birth. From Eber, the Jewish people would later emerge, as will be revealed.
