In the revelation bestowed by God upon Rebekah and the blessing Isaac imparted to Jacob, the destiny of Esau was indicated among other elements (Gen. ch. 25; Gen. 27:29-40). To aid in the understanding of the fulfillment of this prophecy, Moses supplements Jacob’s narrative with a concise description of Esau’s descendants, detailing his lineage, leaders, and their habitation. This includes the enumeration of Esau’s sons and the chieftains from his lineage (Gen. 36:1-19).
