Noah serves as a foreshadowing of Christ, and the ark represents the entirety of the earth. The purpose of placing all the animals within the ark was to symbolize the various nations. God did not require the animals to recreate every species, for when they were absent, He commanded the earth to bring forth living creatures, and it obeyed (See Gen. 1:24). Therefore, just as He created them then, He would do so now; as He spoke them into existence, so too would He renew them by His word. By including the animals in the ark, did He not reveal the hidden mystery and fulfill the prophecy, depicting the nations through the wood of the ark, where the essence of all nations was established?

Were there not other patriarchs? Did not Noah precede these holy figures, being the sole individual along with his family deemed worthy to be rescued from the deluge? In him, as well as in his descendants, the image of the Church was anticipated. They found salvation through the tree that delivered them from the flood.

Cyrill of Jerusalem

In times of enchantment, until the arrival of other enchantresses, men shall be with men and women shall be with women. Let us recall the ark of Noah, which contained Noah, his sons, his wife, and the wives of his sons. Although the ark was solitary and the door was closed, all was well inside. Even if the temple is closed and everything within it is secure, a division must exist among you: men must remain with men and women with women, so that what is meant for salvation does not turn into ruin. It is acceptable to sit close to one another; however, passions must be set aside. For the purpose of gathering, if one has a beneficial text, let him read while the other listens; if there is no text, one should pray while the other contributes something edifying. Additionally, when the maidens come together, they should either sing or read among themselves, ensuring their speech is not heard by others. 'I do not permit a woman to speak in church' (1 Cor. 14:34; 1 Tim. 2:12).

He (Christ) is the entrance (John 10:9) to this vessel (the Church), welcoming both the unruly and the humble, the pure and the impure, the good and the evil, to create for everyone a place with His Father (John 14:2), and to bestow His spiritual gifts upon all.

Despite the vast numbers of creatures that approached the ark, they could easily be accommodated within its extensive space of over 3,000,000 cubic feet. Furthermore, the variety of animals present on the ark should not be assessed solely based on the remarkable range we observe today. This variety does not necessarily indicate distinct species; it also stems from the intermingling of types, the characteristics of their native lands, and numerous additional factors. The different breeds present may not have needed to be on the ark for the continuity of their kinds to remain intact. The collective arrival of these animals from various regions of the earth was purely an act of God's sovereign will, exercised through His omnipotence.

If God created the animals effortlessly, would He find it challenging to gather them for their preservation? Could He not orchestrate their arrival in pairs, ensuring they entered the ark orderly, preventing chaos, allowing the inherently fierce to refrain from harming the gentle, and commanding their compliance to Noah as their leader?
