In these statements, the Saviour's presence is once again highlighted, as though He is captivating the Israelites with melody, encouraging them to embrace the message of the Gospel while urging them not to disregard His call in favor of the commandments given through Moses. This call to attentiveness and care regarding the divine and Gospel truths is emphasized with the admonition, "Take heed and hear my words." Such an attitude of vigilance and obedience is essential for those who aspire to fill their hearts and minds with a profound understanding of the law, particularly the Christian law.

To those who, following their faith in Christ and the cleansing of holy baptism, foolishly revert to the Mosaic or legal observances, he declares: "You have become estranged from Christ, you who seek to be justified by the law; you have fallen from grace; for we eagerly await the hope of righteousness through faith in the Spirit" (Galatians 5:4-5). Christ’s words, "Hear and hearken to my words," may also suggest something further. Jerome of Stridon
