But when morning was come, the Levite prepared to go on his journey. And his father in law said to him again: I beseech thee to take a little meat, and strengthening thyself, till the day be farther advanced, afterwards thou mayest depart. And they ate together.

On the second and third day, the father of the young girl insisted that his son-in-law remain until love and harmony prevailed between him and his wife. Similarly, he was eager to add a fifth day to the first, and there were no justifications left to postpone their departure, yet the father's longing to see his daughter cherished remained strong. The elder encouraged them to begin their journey at midday, so they could be strengthened with nourishment before setting out on the road.
