Judges 3:22Meaning & Commentary from the Church Fathers

With such force that the haft went in after the blade into the wound, and was closed up with the abundance of fat. So that he did not draw out the dagger, but left it in the body as he had struck it in: and forthwith, by the secret parts of nature, the excrements of the belly came out.

The author referred to the blade of the knife as a flame, while in the Slavonic version, it is rendered as the point. The hilt is described as a sword. This is illustrated in the scripture: "And he drew out the knife, which was over his girdle, and thrust it into Eglon's belly: and he thrust in the hilt by the point, and put the sword in the knob."
