Vissarion (Nechaev)
The adversities faced by the Israelites prompted them to reflect on their past and recall the Lord God they had neglected. In their distress, they cried out for His assistance. To illustrate their unworthiness of the help they sought, the Lord sent a prophet to confront them about their betrayal and lack of gratitude, reminding them of His numerous blessings since their deliverance from Egypt (Judges 6:8-10). This message likely led to genuine contrition among the Hebrews. Moved by their repentance, the Lord chose Gideon through His angel to rescue them from the oppression of Midian.
