Similarly, the divine commandments instruct us against seizing what rightfully belongs to others for our own benefit, urging us to settle debts without charging interest. Society compels us to assist the needy, while selfishness often seeks more than it offers. When someone is in need of assistance due to lacking resources to fulfill a debt, it is a grave injustice to pretend to act with compassion while demanding an impossible repayment from someone unable to give anything. You may release the debtor from the grasp of the lender only to bind them as your own indebted servant. This reveals a misuse of mercy that merely perpetuates wrongdoing.
