In every way, this represents a fitting and honorable culmination of the endeavor to establish the holy city and temple of the Lord. After God had purified the inhabitants from all forms of defilement associated with foreign influences that oppose divine will, the priests and Levites were to be adequately supported in their ministries. This support ensured that the Church's teachers, guided by established principles, would consistently motivate the cleansed community to persist and flourish in good deeds moving forward. If firewood did not sometimes symbolize goodness, the prophet would not have proclaimed, "And let all the trees of the oak trees rejoice before the face of the Lord" (Psalms 95:12-13). Thus, the wood is ignited and consumed upon the altar of burnt offering when the hearts of the chosen fulfill righteous deeds in the flames of love.
