At that time, Eliashib served as the high priest, being the son of Jehoiakim. He inherited this title after his father Jesus, the high priest and son of Josedec, who had long held the esteemed position. It was essential for the restoration of the city to commence with the high priest and his associates, ensuring that those in the highest offices would set an example for all through their virtuous actions. It is noted that they consecrated the gates they constructed. This reflects the role of priests to elevate their efforts through special consecration, emphasizing that those who join them may honor the name of the Lord by living righteously.
