The gate known as the Fish Gate is located opposite Yafa and Diospol (Lydda). This gate is among the roads of Jerusalem that are closest to the sea; today, it is recognized as David's Gate, situated as the first entrance west of Mount Zion. This interpretation may be drawn from the Chronicles, which recount that King Manasseh of Judah constructed the outer wall of the city of David on the western side of Theon, extending along the gully to the entrance of the Fish Gate, encircling Ophel, and raising it high (2 Chronicles 33:14).

In a typological sense, the term ‘flock’ represents those who believe in the Lord, similar to how ‘fish’ serves the same purpose. When Jesus instructs Peter to ‘Feed My sheep’ (John 21:17), He likewise invites Peter, Andrew, and the other apostles with the promise, ‘Follow Me, and I will make you fishers of men’ (Matthew 4:19). Furthermore, Jesus describes the fishermen in a parable: ‘Like the Kingdom of Heaven is a seine cast into the sea and caught fish of every kind, which, when it was full, was pulled ashore, and when they had sat down, they gathered the good into vessels, and threw away the bad’ (Matthew 13:47-48).

Thus, the Fish Gate is established in Jerusalem as the Church creates a pathway through which the elect, distinguished from the corrupt, akin to good fish being separated from the bad, can enter into the community of eternal peace. The Fish Gate comes into existence as it provides refuge for those who look to it, delivering them from the tumult of worldly concerns and aspirations, guiding them into the tranquility and serenity of spiritual life.
