It is thus ordained that each individual shall possess an inheritance within their own tribe, ensuring that the heritage of one tribe remains distinct from that of others and is not transferred to a different tribe. In a deeper understanding, the daughters of Zelophehad, who inherit alongside their brothers, symbolize the sanctified women who, in union with their husbands, attain an inheritance in the Kingdom of God.

Jerome of Stridon

4th centuryChurch Father

I understand, dear Principia, my sister in Christ, that some individuals criticize me for occasionally addressing women and for showing a preference for the gentler sex over men. Thus, I feel obligated to first respond to my critics before engaging in the conversation you have requested. The daughters of Zelophehad rightfully receive their inheritance among their brothers. I present this to you succinctly, noble daughter, so that you shall not feel regret for your gender, nor shall men be scorned by their identity, as the holy Scriptures celebrate the lives of women in contrast to those who stand condemned.
