Jerome of Stridon
In the book of Numbers, the promised land is succinctly outlined into four segments, specifically starting from the northern boundary. The demarcation states: "Further on the northern side shall be the boundaries from the great sea, reaching to a very high mountain, from which you shall go to Emath to the borders of Sadada; thence shall be the boundaries to Zephron, and the city of Enam or Aser-enon." The Jewish tradition indicates that the northern boundary begins at the great sea, which borders Palestine, Phoenicia, and Syria, known as Cele and Cilicia, and extends to Egypt and Libya. The phrase "They shall reach to a very high mountain" refers, according to Jewish interpretation, either to Mount Haman or Mount Taurus, with the latter being regarded as the more accurate identification.
