Terms of Service

§ 1 Scope and Provider

These Terms of Service apply to the THEOSIS mobile app and web services.

The provider is DIGITAL ORTHODOX PATRISTIC LIBRARY LIMITED, RM 2904-05, 29/F, Universal Trade Centre, 3 Arbuthnot Road, Central, Hong Kong, registry number (CR No.) 80382404. You can contact us at support@theosis-app.com.

By registering for and using THEOSIS, you accept these Terms and the Privacy Policy.

§ 2 Services

THEOSIS is an Orthodox spiritual companion app. It includes Bible texts, patristic commentaries, prayers, liturgical content, audiobooks, quests, personal plans, and community features.

Social features include text and image posts, comments, Upsheep reactions, viewing Stories, direct messages, follows and follow requests, public profiles, activity visibility, topics, individual and shared streaks, reporting, blocking, and the video round. Creating Stories is not currently available in the native app.

§ 3 Registration and Account

You can register with Apple, Google, or an email address and password. An SMS code is used only for optional phone verification in contact matching. It is not a login method.

Each person may maintain only one personal account. You must provide accurate information and keep your login credentials confidential. You are responsible for activity through your account to the extent that you are at fault.

§ 4 Minimum Age and Protection of Minors

THEOSIS may be used from the age of 13. Anyone under 16 needs the consent of a parent or legal guardian where the law of their country of residence requires it for consent to data processing. We may request evidence of consent and suspend accounts without the required consent.

Date of birth is collected by self-declaration. People under 16 may only read social content. They cannot post or interact there.

For people aged 16 to 17, direct messages are available only when both accounts follow each other.

Parents and guardians should supervise use by minors and contact support@theosis-app.com with questions.

§ 5 Free and Premium

Free includes up to three weekly goals. Premium includes up to seven weekly goals.

Free includes one 90-second sample per audiobook. The sample does not reset. Free receives up to three new quests per week.

Free may show an internal notice and upsell screen labelled "Advertising". THEOSIS does not use an external advertising network for this screen and does not share data with advertising third parties for it.

Any additional Premium content is described in the offer shown at the time.

§ 6 Premium Plans, Trials, and Billing

THEOSIS offers annual, quarterly, and family plans. Prices, currency, and duration are shown before purchase in the relevant store or on the web.

The family plan is an annual subscription. It can be shared through the relevant store's family sharing feature with members of your family group there. Scope, number of members, and administration are governed by Apple or Google rules.

A 7-day trial is currently offered for the annual subscription in the iOS App when the App Store displays it. The trial ends automatically when the paid subscription begins unless you cancel beforehand.

Purchases in the iOS app are billed through the Apple App Store. Purchases in the Android app are billed through Google Play. Web purchases are billed through Stripe.

A subscription renews automatically for the selected term unless it is cancelled before expiry through the platform where it was purchased. Cancellation takes effect at the end of the current billing period. Existing store subscriptions are recognised through RevenueCat.

THEOSIS does not refund payments, including pro rata for any unused remaining term. This also applies if your account is suspended or deleted due to a breach of these Terms. Refunds for purchases through the Apple App Store or Google Play are governed exclusively by the rules of the relevant store and must be requested there. Mandatory statutory rights, in particular the right of withdrawal under § 7, remain unaffected.

§ 7 Right of Withdrawal for Web Purchases

For a web purchase, you generally have 14 days from conclusion of the contract to withdraw as a consumer. You can withdraw by emailing support@theosis-app.com.

For digital services, the right of withdrawal expires before the end of that period only if you expressly request immediate performance and acknowledge that you will lose the right of withdrawal.

Purchases through Apple or Google are also subject to the rules and refund channels of the relevant store.

§ 8 Device Binding of THEOSIS Premium

THEOSIS Premium is personal and can be used on one device at a time. One additional device of a different type owned by you may be used if both devices are verifiably linked to the same Apple account.

You may switch devices at any time. After a switch, the previous device is blocked from Premium use for 28 days. Before switching, you are informed of the block in the App and must confirm it.

If a device is lost, stolen, or defective, Support will lift the block upon proof. Contact support@theosis-app.com.

The block does not create a right to a refund while Premium remains usable on the active device. Free content remains available.

Sharing login credentials with third parties is prohibited. The Provider may terminate access in cases of systematic misuse.

§ 9 Community Rules

You may use THEOSIS for respectful discussion, learning, and sharing your own lawful content.

Hate, discrimination, harassment, bullying, threats, glorification of violence, calls for violence, sexual or exploitative content, child sexual exploitation or abuse, illegal content, fraud, spam, unauthorised advertising, deception, circumvention of safeguards, unauthorised disclosure of personal data, and copyright infringement are prohibited.

Treat people from other Christian denominations and other religions with respect. Do not present pastoral guidance as a substitute for a priest or another qualified person.

§ 10 User Content and Licence

User content includes posts, comments, direct messages, images, videos, and profile information. You remain responsible for your content and its legality. You may upload only content for which you have the necessary rights.

You grant the Provider a simple, non-exclusive licence to store your content technically, display it in the App, and distribute it according to the visibility you select. The licence is limited to operating THEOSIS.

The licence ends when the content or your account is deleted. It may continue for a permitted copy shared by another person until that copy is deleted.

§ 11 Reporting, Blocking, and Moderation

You can report content and block other accounts in the App. You can send additional information and appeals to support@theosis-app.com. In an immediate danger, contact the appropriate emergency or law-enforcement services.

Text and images are checked automatically with the OpenAI Moderation API. In addition, an OpenAI language model accessed through OpenRouter classifies the post text according to our rules. The rules are then applied. Unclear cases receive human review.

For violations, THEOSIS may remove content, reduce its reach, restrict features, or suspend accounts temporarily or permanently. Where legally and safely possible, you will receive reasons. You can request human review through support@theosis-app.com.

§ 12 Optional Contact Matching

Contact matching is optional. Phone numbers are hashed on the server with a secret HMAC key and compared with existing contacts. Contact names remain on your device.

No more than 2,000 phone numbers are processed in one match. The SMS code only verifies your phone number for this feature.

§ 13 AI Chat

When you use Apologetics or Seraph, your questions are sent through OpenRouter to Anthropic Claude. The chat history is stored with your account.

AI answers may be incomplete or incorrect. They are for information and do not replace a priest or pastoral, medical, or other professional advice.

§ 14 Gamification

Individual and shared streaks and Upsheep reactions are used only for motivation and social interaction. Upsheep is limited to two reactions per day.

These features have no monetary value. They cannot be sold, transferred, or redeemed for money.

§ 15 Intellectual Property

Texts, translations, commentaries, audiobooks, quests, images, audio content, software, and the THEOSIS brand are protected by copyright or other rights. Different licences and attributions shown in the App remain unaffected.

Without permission, you may not reproduce, make publicly available, sell, or use protected content outside the intended use of the App.

§ 16 Availability and Changes to the Service

We aim to provide reliable availability. There is no entitlement to uninterrupted use. Maintenance, security, technical faults, and capacity limits may temporarily restrict the service.

We may change, add, or discontinue features where there is an objective reason. This includes security, legal requirements, technical development, and changes in demand. Your statutory rights and already paid service periods remain protected.

§ 17 Liability

The Provider is fully liable for intent, gross negligence, and injury to life, body, or health.

For slight negligence, we are liable only for breach of an essential contractual obligation. Liability is then limited to foreseeable damage typical of the contract. Mandatory statutory liability remains unaffected.

THEOSIS provides religious and theological content for education and information. This content and AI answers do not replace pastoral, medical, or legal advice.

§ 18 Account Deletion

You can permanently delete your account in the App. Your content and account data are permanently removed in the deletion process. The account cannot be restored afterwards.

Deleting the account does not cancel a subscription in the Apple App Store or Google Play. You must cancel it there separately. RevenueCat is unlinked from the account and the Klaviyo profile is deleted.

If we suspend or delete your account because you breach these Terms, your access to Premium ends immediately. You are not entitled to a refund or credit for periods already paid. You must cancel an active store subscription yourself in the store; otherwise it will continue to renew there.

§ 19 Changes to These Terms

We may change these Terms if the service, the law, or security requirements change or if a regulatory gap must be closed.

We will inform you of material changes by email or in the App before they take effect. You may object and terminate the contract before they take effect. If a change requires your express consent, it takes effect only after you consent.

§ 20 Apple and Google

When you download or purchase through the Apple App Store or Google Play, DIGITAL ORTHODOX PATRISTIC LIBRARY LIMITED remains your contracting party for THEOSIS. The store operator is not the contracting party for the App service.

DIGITAL ORTHODOX PATRISTIC LIBRARY LIMITED provides maintenance and support for THEOSIS. Mandatory obligations of the store operator for payment or refunds remain unaffected.

Apple and Google are third-party beneficiaries of these Terms and may enforce the provisions applicable to their store against you.

§ 21 Applicable Law and Dispute Resolution

The law of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region of the People's Republic of China applies, excluding the United Nations Convention on Contracts for the International Sale of Goods.

If you are a consumer, the mandatory consumer-protection rules of your country of residence continue to apply where they give you greater protection. Statutory places of jurisdiction remain unaffected.

Place of jurisdiction is Hong Kong, where legally permissible.

The European Commission's online dispute resolution platform was discontinued in July 2025. THEOSIS is neither obliged nor willing to participate in dispute-resolution proceedings before a consumer arbitration board.
