A soldier observed Jonathan and remarked that his father had placed a curse on the people, declaring, ‘Cursed is the man who eats bread today,’ which left the people exhausted. Jonathan responded, ‘May my father bring ruin to the land. What does ‘ruin’ imply? It means destroyed, harmed everyone. Consequently, after the vow was violated, a hush fell over the group, and no one had the courage to reveal the one at fault; this was a significant transgression, for not only those who break the vow are guilty, but also those who, aware of it, conceal the wrongdoing.
