In the First Book of Kings, we learn that because of the harm inflicted upon the sacred ark of the Lord, the enemies faced consequences from behind; as it states in Psalm 77:66, “and he smote his enemies in the rear,” leading to their torment by foul rodents. No other group faced punishment quite like theirs. This serves as a foreshadowing of the fate that awaits transgressors in the afterlife: their obligations will remain unforgiven, and they will experience suffering akin to that of rodents when they find themselves encircled by the forces of evil.
