The Church Fathers on this verse

One Church Father comments on this verse

John Chrysostom

4th centuryChurch Father

God allowed him to remain alive for an extended period, providing opportunities for him to turn back to Him. He granted him access to the king's treasures so that he might repent, as he remembered the home of his upbringing and the items that reminded him of his father. Truly, if he were not like a beast, devoid of compassion, all these experiences should have been enough to awaken his understanding: the table where he shared moments with his father, the dwelling, the places where he was counseled during the time of his wrongdoing, alongside many other reminders, would have touched his heart.
