John Chrysostom
"In anguish You have broadened my space." (Psalm 4:2) Throughout history, during times of hardship, the Lord provided David with relief in remarkable ways. Amidst the persecution of Absalom, while he took refuge in the mountains and deserts, David experienced hunger and deprivation. Yet, in his desperate state, God sent him sustenance through two men reminiscent of Elijah's ravens (2 Samuel 17:6). The first, Siba, who came from the household of his adversary Saul, delivered two hundred loaves of bread along with wine, figs, and grapes. Following this, Beerselius the Gileadite brought him ten beds to prevent him from having to sleep on the ground, along with rugs, vessels of wine, wheat, barley, flour, beans, lentils, oil, sheep, and young calves.

Thus, when faced with the trials of hunger and persecution, God bestowed upon him a profusion of blessings, prompting the psalmist to express gratitude by saying, "In distress You have broadened my space." In moments when hunger weighed heavier upon him than Absalom itself, God transformed the wilderness into a land flowing with milk and honey. Therefore, let none of us, pursued for the sake of God, fear hunger. "The Lord will not allow the soul of the righteous to suffer hunger" (Proverbs 10:3). David faced oppression, yet the Lord granted him ample space.
