Although the Church yearns, with maternal affection, for their return to the true vine, without which they cannot possess genuine life, she finds solace in the fact that if she gains many others at the expense of these few—especially since they choose their own destruction rather than suffering from uncontrollable circumstances—it lessens the sorrow of her heart and brings healing through the salvation of many nations.
