These matters were realized within the national assembly. The Levites, raised in a mighty voice, declared the curse; and the people affirmed it with the utterance, “be” (Deuteronomy 27:14-15). However, the Orthodox Church, bearing a solemn responsibility, made sure to embrace the joyful aspect of God’s command: “give blessing.” After pronouncing judgment on those who posed a threat to her very existence, she cheerfully bestows her blessing upon those who, through the means provided by Divine Providence, have expedited and continue to promote her correction and the advancement of peace.
