One Church Father comments on this verse

Cyrill of Alexandria

5th centuryChurch Father

He perceived in this affliction the imprisoned Jerusalem, or the people of Judah, radiating with the splendor of ancestral dignity; it is indeed a marvel worthy of admiration due to its heritage. When God gazed upon him and found him deserving of His love, He not only wished to reside with him but also to empower him to carry out righteous deeds, inviting him into His home.
