Basil the Great

Just as the variety of goods in a marketplace reflects the richness of a city, and a fruitful land is deemed prosperous, the soul also experiences abundance when filled with diverse good works. Initially, it must undergo careful cultivation, followed by nourishment through bountiful streams of divine grace. Only then can it yield a harvest—thirty, sixty, or even a hundredfold, as noted in Matthew 13:23 and Mark 4:20. This abundance brings to fruition the promise: Blessed are your barns and your storehouses, as stated in Deuteronomy 28:5.

Ambrose of Milan

4th centuryChurch Father

The understanding of this truth is disclosed to His faithful ones by the benevolent God, who offers it from His abundant storehouse, as affirmed by the holy Scriptures: For the Lord made an oath to your ancestors to bestow upon you and to unveil His generous treasury, that treasury of heaven, from which He sends rain upon His earth to enrich all the endeavors of your hands. This rain symbolizes the word of the Law, which nourishes the soul that is fruitful and overflowing with good deeds, ensuring it is sustained by the grace of God.
