Ephraem the Syrian

4th centuryChurch Father

May the Lord reveal to you His abundant blessings from heaven. This conveys the belief in the Spirit’s descent from the eternal essence. He will provide the rain for your land at the appropriate time. This illustrates the unveiling of divine mysteries. You will bestow many words; you will not borrow. This is a consecrated nation, where each individual has a need for instruction, and it relies on no one else, for it does not heed the teachings of the destitute.

Ambrose of Milan

4th centuryChurch Father

The understanding of this truth is bestowed upon His faithful servants by the benevolent God, who generously shares it from His divine storehouse, as the holy Scriptures affirm: For the Lord made a promise to your ancestors to bestow upon you and to unveil His glorious treasure, that celestial treasury from which He sends forth rain to nurture His creation, to prosper all the endeavors of your hands. This rain symbolizes the word of the Law, which nourishes the soul, making it fruitful and overflowing with good deeds, so that it may be enriched with the fullness of grace.
