John Chrysostom
How should we express our love for Him? I have reiterated this countless times, but it is essential to reflect on it now. I believe I have discovered a significant and wonderful approach. By contemplating the blessings of God, which are plentiful and immeasurable, and expressing our gratitude for them, we should consider what He has accomplished for each of us and meditate on it daily. This practice holds immense power. Therefore, let each of us personally recall times when we faced peril yet escaped the grasp of our adversaries, maintaining the blessings of God as if they were inscribed in a book.

For instance, think about moments when you began a journey prematurely and avoided harm, or when you interacted with unsuitable individuals yet emerged triumphant, or if you encountered illness and unexpectedly recovered. Reflecting on such instances greatly aids in reconciling us with God. If the king’s remembrance of good deeds brought Mardoheus back to his former honor, how much more significant will it be for us if we consciously recall our transgressions against God alongside the blessings He has granted? This awareness will lead us to gratitude and a renunciation of all sinful actions. Yet, many fail to remember such matters; we often acknowledge ourselves as sinners without considering the specifics of our failings, just as we claim to be favored by God without inspecting how and when these favors manifest. Let us strive to be more vigilant moving forward. If anyone can recall past blessings, they should diligently ponder them, for within they will find a great treasure. This reflection also serves to prevent despair: as we recognize the frequent dispensations of His favor, we will not succumb to hopelessness or feel forsaken; rather, we will perceive a profound assurance of His care for us, realizing that even amid our sins, we experience His continued blessings.
