Vissarion (Nechaev)
The war chariots and their drivers, acting on Pharaoh's command, promptly set out to pursue the presumed escapees. These combat chariots were typically drawn by pairs or threes of horses and featured razor-sharp scythes mounted on either side. Each chariot customarily accommodated three individuals: the charioteer who guided the horses, a warrior wielding a shield, and another warrior who charged forward with a heavy sword, striking down anyone who failed to evade the scythes, the wheels of the chariot, or the pounding hooves of the horses. The chariots often penetrated the formations of infantry.
