The Commentary on the Bible suggests that this section of the narrative serves as strong evidence for Moses's authorship of the Pentateuch. No later author would have dared to credit the organization of the courts solely to Moses and his unique insight. Only a sincere, humble, and righteous chronicler like Moses would have chosen to forgo personal recognition of this idea in favor of acknowledging a family member.
