The commandments of God and the regulations that Moses articulated were likely principles of justice and truth applicable to all, as the specific laws for Israel had not yet been established. Yet, as we have stated previously, the fundamental commandments given to Adam and Noah, which were righteously upheld by Abraham and the patriarchs, were recognized by the people. Utilizing these principles of justice, Moses discerned the people's actions, instructing them on the essential tenets of righteousness.
