We have previously noted that verse 21 of chapter 22 may be directed towards the people, while verse 9 appears to be meant for the judges and leaders of Israel. The phrase, “ye know the stranger's soul, because ye were strangers yourselves,” carries a profound beauty. This reminder evokes the noblest emotions drawn from reflecting on one’s own spirit and its trials; it aligns perfectly with the commandment articulated by our Lord, “love your neighbor as yourself.”
