When one thinks of the font, it naturally evokes the image of the sacred water that cleanses the impurities of sin. The font represents John, who, in the Jordan River, purifies the stains of transgressions through the baptism of repentance. The font also signifies Peter, who, on that remarkable day, led three thousand souls to the water. Similarly, Philip served as the font for the eunuch Candace. Fonts encompass all those who impart grace to every individual who accepts this divine gift.

The basin, positioned for purification between the sanctuary and the altar, symbolizes the spiritual cleansing, where the soul is cleansed from its transgressions, enabling it to approach the holy sanctuary.

This vessel, often referred to as a laver, represents the sacred waters of baptism, through which all who approach the entrance of the Church undergo necessary purification. Just as the altar of burnt offerings was located within the Tabernacle of the Covenant, the priests were required to cleanse themselves twice daily, in the morning and evening, before entering the altar to present incense to the Lord. In contrast, we are renewed only once by the waters of baptism. This laver also symbolizes the cleansing process that accompanies our repentance and tears, which we continually experience, particularly as we prepare to partake in the divine sacraments.
