Following his earlier dialogue with Moses in the temporary tent of meeting, the Lord instructed him to get ready for the glorious restoration of the covenant for which Moses had pleaded. Moses was to carve out two stone tablets, on which the Lord had assured him He would write the Ten Commandments anew. Early the next morning, he was to ascend to the summit of Sinai alone. Just as during the initial establishment of the covenant, no person or livestock was to approach the mountain. At the designated time, Moses arrived at Sinai with the prepared tablets.
