When Pharaoh remained unconvinced despite this, Aaron extended his hand once more. The staff represents the Cross: it initiated all the plagues when it swallowed the serpents, symbolizing the eventual downfall of all false gods; and it also marked their conclusion when the sea parted and the Egyptians perished, serving as a foreshadowing of the annihilation of the Canaanites.
