And the spirit lifted me up, declared the prophet, and guided me to the entrance of the Lord’s house, which faced directly east. There, at the gate, I saw twenty-five men gathered, among whom was Jesonias, the son of Hezekiah, and Phaltias the elder from Vanee. The Lord spoke to me, saying, Son of man, these men engage in emptiness and devise wicked plans in this city, asserting, Is it not a newly constructed dwelling? This is konob, and you will become its sustenance. He condemns both the leaders and their followers for their intent to act against God, disregarding the Prophets, and their desire to feel secure from impending judgment, hoping instead to continue residing in the city until their days are fulfilled. They claim, ‘The houses are newly built; in them we will dwell, and there we shall complete our lives.’ Angered by this, God reveals through the Prophet the forthcoming invasion by their foes, for the Prophet declares:
