Theodoret of Cyrus

5th centuryChurch Father

All these elements, along with the anointing, the hay, and the prophets who delivered the anointing, will prove ineffective; for instead of the promised tranquility, Jerusalem will experience siege and captivity. After addressing the false prophets, he redirects his message to the false prophetesses: the enemy of humanity, having identified these women as suitable tools, disseminated deceit through them. Just as he distinguished between true prophets and false ones, he differentiates between those wives who possessed prophetic grace and those who embraced the power of falsehood. Consequently, God reveals what awaits them as well.
