The Church Fathers on this verse

One Church Father comments on this verse

Theodoret of Cyrus

5th centuryChurch Father

All these elements, including the anointing, the straw, and the prophets who delivered the anointing, will prove ineffective; instead of the promised tranquility, Jerusalem will face siege and captivity. After addressing the false prophets, he shifts his focus to the false prophetesses: the adversary of humanity has identified them as fitting tools for his deceptions, propagating falsehoods through their influence. Just as he differentiated between the true prophets and the false ones, he also distinguishes between the women who have been blessed with prophetic grace and those who have embraced the power of deceit. Consequently, God predicts the fate that awaits them as well.
