The Church Fathers on this verse

One Church Father comments on this verse

Theodoret of Cyrus

5th centuryChurch Father

With a voice resembling that of a call, cry out to the multitude of people staggering forth from the wilderness. What resembles a wilderness more closely than those who bow down to idols? From these arid places of the spirit emerged teachings of iniquity, which you embraced with feeble instruments creating sweet sounds. You have adorned them with rings upon their fingers and bestowed a crown of glory upon their heads. Those who choose to serve idols gain nothing from them; instead, they offer to the idols sacred gifts, adorning them with various embellishments.
