Jerome of Stridon

4th centuryChurch Father

After the twenty-seventh year of King Jehoiakim's exile, the narrative returns to the moment he commenced his prophecies against Egypt, specifically in the tenth year, tenth month, and on the eleventh day of that month. He relays a divine command from the Lord to proclaim to all nations, with a particular focus on Egypt. What message does he convey? Lament: O, what a day of sorrow!

Theodoret of Cyrus

5th centuryChurch Father

He fears all these matters, instructing to mourn and grieve. He refers to the day as a period of judgment, identifies the cloud as a symbol, and describes the darkness that descends upon souls in times of distress. He names the manifestation of tongues as the retribution destined for the nations outside His covenant. God asserts that none of My people will endure these misfortunes; instead, the nations will face punishment for their wickedness.
