Jerome of Stridon
But you, son of man, prophesy against Gog and declare, thus says the Lord God: Behold, I am against you, Gog, the chief prince of Meshech and Tubal. I will bring you forth, gathering you from the corners of the north and leading you to the mountains of Israel. I will shatter your bow out of your left hand and your arrows from your right hand, and you will fall upon the mountains of Israel; you and all your troops and the nations with you will fall. To the wild animals, the birds of the air, and every creature that crawls on the ground, I have given you as food. You will fall on the open field, for I have spoken, says the Lord God. I will send fire upon Magog and upon those who dwell carelessly in the isles, and they will know that I am the Lord.

I will reveal My holy name among My people Israel, and I will not allow My holy name to be profaned any longer, and the nations will know that I am the Holy One of Israel. Behold, it is coming, and it shall be fulfilled, says the Lord God; this is the day I have spoken of. And the residents of the cities of Israel will go out and set fire to their weapons: shields and spears, bows and arrows, clubs and axes; they will burn them for seven years. They will not gather wood from the fields, nor will they cut down trees from the forests; for they will burn the weapons with fire. They will plunder those who plundered them and rob those who robbed them, says the Lord God.
It will come to pass on that day that I will give Gog a burial place in Israel, a valley for travelers east of the sea, which will bewilder those who pass by, and they will build a memorial around the entrance to the valley, burying Gog and all his horde there; they will call it the valley of Gog’s horde. The house of Israel will bury them to cleanse the land within seven months. All the people of the land will participate in burying them, and the day will be acknowledged among them as the day I have glorified Myself, says the Lord God. They will designate people to search the land for remains, burying any found to cleanse it, and at the end of seven months, they will begin their search. Those who travel through the land will pass it over, and when they find a human bone, they will mark it until the burial team lays it to rest in the valley of Gog’s horde. The name of the city will be Amon. The land will be cleansed. This, according to the assurance from Jewish tradition and the teachings of timeless truths, will be fulfilled after the millennial reign: Gog, prince of Rosh, Meshech, and Tubal, will be slain within Israel’s borders and will be consumed by every bird and beast; the inhabitants of Israel’s cities will utilize wood from the trees cut down in the forests for seven years, their spoils coming from Gog’s weapons—shields, spears, arrows, and clubs. Gog will be interred in the valley named in Hebrew Ge, and the grave will be called Amon, signifying a multitude of buried persons. The house of Israel will bury him over seven months to purify the land, and the day of Gog’s demise will be renowned. Men will be appointed to carefully search for and bury the bones to ensure nothing remains unburied. After seven months, or during the months, they will traverse the land, marking any human bones they encounter with a sign so that the appointed burial team can inter them. The name of this city will be Amon, which in Greek is called Polyandria, meaning a multitude of buried men. Thus, the earth shall be cleansed. We shall elaborate on all that has been stated, adhering to the interpretation that has commenced. Gog has his trinity as well: Rosh, Meshech, and Tubal—representing headship, madness, and all vices, embodying every moral failing that Gog possesses.
