Theodoret of Cyrus

5th centuryChurch Father

For this reason, the Lord speaks to Adonai: Since your image surpasses the words that surround you and you do not adhere to my commands, nor uphold my statutes, nor judge fairly as the nations around you do, therefore, the Lord declares, I am against you, and I will bring judgment upon you amid those who speak. You have adopted the characteristics of the nations, embraced their deeds, and rejected my statutes and commandments. Your wickedness has exceeded that of the nations from whom you learned; for this, I will openly judge you. The nations will witness my judgment and hear my decree; while they may not benefit from your righteousness, they shall at least gain insight from your punishment.
