Then all the men of Juda, and Benjamin gathered themselves together to Jerusalem within three days, in the ninth month, the twentieth day of the month: and all the people sat in the street of the house of God, trembling because of the sin, and the rain.

It is essential to observe that when the assembly gathered during the deep winter, they were reported to be trembling due to both the cold and the rain. As the rain began to pour more heavily than customary in this already damp season, their awareness of guilt returned, leading them to understand that their misdeeds had brought about this calamity and that they could not evade divine punishment. The very turmoil in the heavens filled them with fear, prompting them to refrain from returning home alone; instead, they remained humbly and repentantly in the courtyard of the Lord's house.

This serves as a lesson for those who, despite the perishing of both humans and animals and the Judge Himself warning with discernible signs of His wrath, do not endeavor to amend their ways to please Him and avert the impending doom. Rather, they pursue futile attempts to evade or withstand the disasters they have attracted through their sins.
