Moses and Samuel both acted in a similar manner. Moses interceded on behalf of the people when God expressed His desire to annihilate them, saying, “Therefore forsake Me, that My wrath may be kindled against them, and I will destroy them” (Ex. 32:10). Consider the incredible influence Moses held! God communicated to him: “Leave Me; your presence keeps Me from acting; your intercessions restrain My hand. I aim to strike, yet your prayers shield the people. Depart from Me and I will bring destruction.” Furthermore, observe the mercy of God! By stating “Leave Me,” He reveals that if Moses remains with Him, destruction will be averted. Essentially, He is saying: “If you do not depart, I shall not bring ruin.”

Let us examine Samuel's actions as well. In the Book of Kings, it is recorded that he averted God's anger toward the people. Despite it being the harvest season, God sent rain, thunder, and flashes of lightning in response to Samuel's prayers. It is noted that as the people retreated from the Israelites down the slopes of Mount Bethoron, the Lord unleashed large hailstones upon them from the sky (Num. 10:11). Consider the power of fire and hail! Where Samuel stood, the lightning did not dare approach; they recognized the prophet of God and the Levite. Samuel’s hands were as if to challenge the lightning, and through his prayers, the storm ceased.
Why share this? Because Moses, Aaron, and Samuel, albeit with different roles, accomplished equally remarkable deeds. Let us bless the Lord, to whom belongs glory forever. Amen.
