Therefore thus saith the Lord concerning the prophets that prophesy in my name, whom I did not send, that say: Sword and famine shall not be in this land: By sword and famine shall those prophets be consumed.

They will meet a harsh end, and there will be no one to lay them to rest. The realm of torment, affliction, and hunger extends from the misled to those who are misled, leaving both them and their followers unburied, as no one is available to provide a burial for them.

Jerome of Stridon

Thus declares the Lord regarding the prophets: Those who prophesy in My name, whom I have not commissioned, and who proclaim, ‘There shall be neither sword nor famine in this land’: they shall meet their end through sword and famine. The nations to whom they preached will wander through the streets of Jerusalem, afflicted by hunger and the sword, with no one to bury them, neither they nor their wives, nor their sons and daughters; I will unleash their wickedness upon them.

Let the false prophets who mislead the people of God with empty promises of wealth take heed, lest they face destruction themselves, and those they have deceived also suffer the same fate, causing those who break God’s commandments to be scattered in the streets of Jerusalem, meeting their end through hunger and the sword, leaving them without anyone to provide for their burial, their ashes of repentance unable to cover their shame. For the prophets, along with all the people, their wives, sons, and daughters, and their entire lineage, will be left without anyone to honor their burial, becoming like refuse. How many lie in the streets of Jerusalem; behold, how many remain unburied, recognizing the evil they endure as the Lord pours judgment upon them.

They will meet a brutal end, falling by the sword and through flames. Those who adhered to their teachings will also face destruction alongside them. However, they will not receive the honor of a burial, for they will all suffer the same fate. Yet the Compassionate One, having predicted this calamity, continues to encourage us to seek the healing of repentance. For He states:
