Thus declares the Lord: Go and take the clay vessel crafted by the potter, along with the elders of the people and the priests, and proceed to the valley of the son of Hinnom, located at the entrance of the gate of the pot. There, declare the words that I will convey to you, and say, Hear the word of the Lord, you kings of Judah and inhabitants of Jerusalem. In lieu of the potter's vessel, referred to in Hebrew as "bocboc," the Septuagint translated it as a barrel. Additionally, instead of the gate of the pot, Avila, Symmachus, and Theodotion utilized the Hebrew term "harfith," while the Septuagint, adhering to its convention, substituted the Greek chi for the aspirate of the letter het, rendering it as Harsif instead of Arsif, as well as using Hebron for Hebron and Jericho for Jericho.

The Divine Scripture aims for the people to learn not only by hearing but also by seeing, for, as previously noted, what is perceived through sight is more readily remembered than that which is heard. He instructs to take a vessel or barrel of clay, alongside the elders of the people and priests, and to enter the valley of the son of Hinnom, mentioned earlier, where there was a site dedicated to Baal, along with an oak tree and a grove nourished by the waters of Siloam. He indicates that this valley is near the gate, which in Hebrew is referred to as Charsith, meaning clay. You shall proclaim there the words that I will speak to you, that they may hear what I will say. The terms preach, proclaim, and read are used because, as noted before, the Hebrew word "carath" encompasses all these meanings. He desires that his message be heard by both the rulers of Judah and the residents of Jerusalem, signifying both the royal family and the entire populace, ensuring that those who refuse to listen have no justification.

After the Prophet relayed these messages, he instructs to gather 'the vessel of scarcity' and proceed to 'the site of great ruin,' accompanied by the priests and the elders among the people. This journey serves as a warning to the city of impending destruction and a reminder of its idolatrous practices; through this act, he predicts the hardships that the siege will bring and the lack of essential resources. Following this, he is to shatter the vessel and proclaim:
