And Jeremiah conveyed to them, Say to Zedekiah, This is the message from the Lord God of Israel: I will bring upon you the weapons of warfare that you wield against the king of Babylon and the Chaldeans who surround your city. I will gather them all within this city, and I will engage you in battle with a mighty and forceful hand, filled with fury, indignation, and great wrath. I will strike down the inhabitants of this city; both humans and livestock will perish from a severe pestilence. He indicates that your efforts to resist the besieging Chaldeans and prepare for battle are futile: you will only find means to use those weapons within the city's walls while appearing outfitted for war.

Yet, during the siege by your enemies, I will contend with you using a powerful and stretched-out arm, unleashing my wrath and fury, causing death by famine and pestilence for all who dwell within the city. And it is noted that all these things came to pass, for the city was captured after a siege without any opposition or combat, leading only to captivity, with no victor to be found. He mentions that those who fell by the sword were fewer than those who succumbed to hunger.
